Crafting Key Messages For Your Videos

Video course strategy tips video promotino

In order to create videos that have impact, it’s important to choose a focus area. If your videos contain loads of information and the content covers too many different tangents, the chances are that your audience will be confused and won’t have the capacity to absorb the information you are attempting to convey.

Videos are a medium for communication. If that communication is not clear, your message will get lost.

Here are three tips to help you craft key messages for your videos: resulting in videos that are clear for your audience.

Tip 1. What do you want to say?

Who is your target audience, and what do you want to say to them?

Think about a message that they would care about. To do this, put yourself in their shoes and ask, “so what?” Why should your audience care about what you have to say? Consider what would be meaningful for them.

Tip 2. Get to the point

Draft a short, simple sentence that gets to the point fast. Continue to redraft this point until it’s written in the language of your target audience, and aligns with the information you want to give to your audience.

With the plethora of video content out there, it’s important that your video gets straight to the point so that your audience can decide upfront whether it will be worth their time to continue watching.

Tip 3. One thread

When writing a video script or outline, keep the above idea consistent throughout, so that your entire video will align with that key message. As you write your script, you may find that the key message changes slightly. This is fine but remember: keep it simple. Don’t overthink it. Create a key message that drives your main point home and would be of interest to your target audience.

Think about what motivates your target audience and what they could learn from you.
