Crafting a catchy call to action

In our latest blog learn what a call to action is, how to write them, and how they help your videos engage your target audience even further!

When you go to the effort of producing a video, it’s worth putting some thought into what you want your audience to do, next. This is known as a ‘call to action’.

In this blog we share three practical tips to help you craft a call to action that will capture your audience’s attention.

1. What’s a call to action?

The call to action (CTA) is an invitation: it’s an offer for your audience to continue to engage. Now that your audience has watched your video through to the end, provide them with an invitation to do something. What’s next?

Consider one of the following calls to action for your video:

  • Subscribe to my YouTube channel
  • Visit our website
  • Connect with me on LinkedIn
  • Sign up to our regular newsletter.

2. What next?

Once you’ve decided on what the call to action (CTA) should be, it’s time to word it for your audience. Who is the target audience for your video? Consider the industry they work in, their educational level and how they speak. Go ahead and wordsmith your call to action until you are confident that it is written in language appropriate for your target audience. For example, if your target audience is academics, avoid colloquial language and use a professional tone in your CTA.

It may be worth having someone review and feed back on your CTA who belongs to your target audience.

3. Where should it be placed?

Always insert your call to action (CTA) at the end of your video. You could also include it during your video – especially if it’s a long video. This is to ensure that you share a CTA with your audience before they possibly stop watching the video to the end.

The CTA can be in the form of text on screen or as the copy that surrounds a social media post. Or, you could simply speak the CTA in the video itself.
