The Stages of Video Production

1. Pre-production

This is the planning stage. This stage typically involves: 

  • Ideation (your ideas and project goals)
  • Project planning (timelines and milestones, budgeting)
  • Scriptwriting (drafting and refining the script until approved)
  • Storyboarding (drafting and refining based on the approved script)
  • Planning and logistics for the shoot day/s (including site permissions, actor and talent liaison)
  • Preparing film equipment for the shoot (cameras, lights, microphones, autocue)

2. Production

This typically involves:

  • Shooting video and directing talent (in a studio or other environment) 
  • Recording narration/voice over

3. Post-production

This is the final stage and typically involves:

  • Video editing including incorporation of narration/voice over
  • Sound design, background music
  • Adding text on screen (e.g. a call to action at the end, credits)
  • Incorporating logos and other branded elements
  • Creation and insertion of subtitles and captions
  • Output and upload of the final files to full quality HD video (1920 x 1080p) ready to share with your audience.
