Brief
To produce a highly engaging 5-minute animation to educate the audience about how the political system works in Australia.
Audience
Young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia.
Solution
We collaborated closely with the client throughout all stages of the project: from pre- to post-production and beyond.
A unique aspect of this project was the involvement of a talented artist and Graphic Recorder, Glenn Stephenson, who provided all the artwork including various mouth shapes and arm and leg pieces that we animated. In addition to the artwork, Glenn contributed to the initial ideas and provided valuable feedback on the story, storyboard and animatic and was an integral part of the entire process.
First we discussed the project requirements, and then we reviewed the client’s first draft script and worked with them and Glenn to turn it into a story with characters that the audience would relate to. We then worked with the client and Glenn to finalise the script, and once it was approved we created a storyboard, which also went through the review process. Once the storyboard was finalised and approved, we created an animatic to give the client a clearer idea of how the animation would look and how the timing would work. After refining and finalising the animatic, we then created the actual animation complete with full lip sync so that the characters’ mouth movements resembled those of the voice over artists who provided us with the voice over tracks. Once the animation was finalised we added sound effects, background music, credits and logos to ensure a professional finish.
Result
The client expressed her deep appreciation for the final product – it was engaging, educational and the artwork looked beautiful in the finished animation. This product will be a valuable resource to the community for years to come. In addition, Glenn commented that there was so much that brought his imagery to life and congratulated our team for achieving this.
